Seatrium Wins Ninth Karpowership FSRU Conversion

Seatrium will convert the LNG carrier LNGT Akdeniz into an FSRU for Karpowership. The design capacity is about 600 mmscf/d.

Seatrium's ninth FSRU conversion for Karpowership, LNGT Akdeniz, is a steady build-out step, not a new source of gas: the vessel is designed to regasify up to 600 million standard cubic feet a day, with conversion work starting in the first quarter of 2027. Contract value was not disclosed.

The Gulf Barrel Desk · 3 min read

Seatrium has secured its ninth FSRU conversion project from Karpowership, this time for the LNG carrier LNGT Akdeniz, Offshore Technology reported. The order adds regasification capacity to a fleet that Karpowership uses for LNG-to-power. It is a contracted step in an existing pipeline, and the useful question is how fast such steps become vessels that are working and supplied with gas.

What the contract covers

Seatrium is responsible for engineering, conversion work, equipment integration, installation and commissioning of the regasification plant and associated systems on LNGT Akdeniz, according to the announcement carried by Offshore Technology. The vessel is designed to regasify nearly 600 million standard cubic feet per day, and work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. The article does not say where the work will be carried out.

Why a ninth conversion matters

The order is reported by Baird Maritime to be the second to move forward under an August 2025 letter of intent covering three FSRU conversions and possibly up to six floating power plants. That makes it a staged pipeline of work rather than a one-off award. Seatrium says it has delivered seven FSRUs to Karpowership since 2018, with LNGT Türkiye recently delivered and LNGT Karadeniz under conversion.

What is still unknown

The reporting reviewed here gives no contract value, delivery date or named buyers for the regasified gas. Nearly 600 million standard cubic feet per day is a design figure, not a measure of gas delivered, and a converted vessel only earns once it is chartered, moored and supplied with LNG. Those are the points to track. This is analysis, not trading or investment advice.
